When I was home a few weeks ago, I spent some time wandering around the backyard with my camera. Unlike most perfectly-manicured lawns, ours is filled with all kinds of edible goodness. Just think of all the wasted suburban space. We are rapidly losing farmland to development and sprawl. If people dedicated even just a corner of their yards to growing edible plants, think of how much gas and oil we could save on food transport! And let’s be honest, a fresh tomato that you just picked moments before slicing it tastes infinitely better than anything you’ll find in the grocery store. (Or even the farmers’ market, but don’t tell them I said that!)
This is just a small sampling of the goodies my dad grows. It is good being a farmer’s daughter.
