Hitched

Why, oh why, don’t Lauren and I have our own reality show? I would watch it. And I don’t even own a TV!

She texted me last night around 8:30 to ask if I knew how to drop the foot on the trailer. We had used it to move the calves earlier that day and the trailer was still hooked up to the truck. Lauren wanted to load the truck for the farmers’ market and needed to unhitch the trailer.

Of course I had no idea, but went out to see if I could help. After several false starts we got the foot dropped, but couldn’t get the trailer raised high enough to free the truck. We spent a good 30 minutes trying to figure it all out. It was dark so we were using my phone as a flashlight. We even called Steve to ask for help, but we couldn’t see what he was describing (using the phone as a phone meant no more flashlight) so it wasn’t very helpful. Eventually we decided to call it a night and regroup in the morning.

Morning came and with it plenty of light, but we still couldn’t figure it out. Lauren needed to get on the road and I needed to feed animals so we loaded everything into the refrigerated truck and she headed off to the market in that. Steve and Ryan can undo whatever we did/didn’t do on Monday. From here on out I’ll be reminding them to make sure it’s all uncoupled before we finish up on Friday afternoons.

Otherwise things went well today. All of the animals behaved themselves and I was able to get everything done and give tours. Now I am completely exhausted and ready for bed. Yes, I know it’s Saturday and it’s not even 8:00 p.m. That’s farm life, I guess! And I’m OK with it.

  1. Glad to hear no one escaped on your watch. 🙂
I can’t remember. Is Saturday market day?
Did you find out what was wrong with the trailer? Was it stuck or just too heavy?

    • Saturday is market day, but I didn’t get to go because I had to be at the farm. Major bummer. It’s been 3 weeks since I’ve been able to go (NYC, farmer’s breakfast, and then working). I’ll be back next week.
I headed out Sunday before Ryan or Steve got back so I have no idea what was wrong, but I’ll be sure to ask them on Wednesday.
