For the past few months I’ve operated under the assumption that most people reading along know who I’m talking about when I mention Ryan or Steve or Lauren. It occurred to me today that this is no longer the case. I have a new crop of co-workers and introductions are in order.
First, the structure. Coverdale Farm is divided into 2 segments. There’s the CSA (where I’m working) and the education programs.
Dan manages the CSA and is my boss. Michelle is the program coordinator. She plans classes, organizes volunteers, deals with camp groups, etc. She is also in charge of the smaller education garden. As fun as children are, you really don’t want them “helping ” with the CSA since there are paying customers expecting quality produce. The education garden is basically the CSA garden but on a much, MUCH smaller scale. Evan is the operations manager for the farm. He deals with the animals, equipment, building and maintaining stuff and the like. His assistant is Harry. I work with Dan a lot. Not so much with Michelle and Evan.
Dan, Michelle, Evan, & Harry. Got it?
Thus far on the CSA team we have Nate, Laura and Jennifer. Nate and Laura are University of Delaware students. Jennifer is a hippy gypsy like me who came to farming via a theater/sociology major. After college she spent a year working on a large homestead out in Seattle. She’s been working office jobs ever since and was looking for a way to get back into agriculture.
That’s everyone I’ve met thus far. Oh, and Dan’s yellow and chocolate labs: Nate & Charlie. First Pearl, then Cash, now these two. The universe is taunting me. It knows how much I want one. It knows.
Can we just take a moment to appreciate the fact that there are 3 females and only 2 males. For the first time in 3 years I won’t be “just one of the guys.” Hallelujah!
